The Story Behind the Stone

Unlike cast decorative pieces or modern resin simulations, ancient mosaic is an art of intentional fracture. The Gazelle Panel relies on geological variance: every tessera is cleft by hand along its natural cleavage planes, creating microscopic facets that refract ambient light across changing daylight.

The andamento—the deliberate directional rhythm of the stone rows—follows the biological anatomy of the animal before flowing into the muted background field. Bound in historical lime-based mineral mortar, the panel will steadily cure and harden across decades rather than deteriorate.
